UPDATE: Microsoft Purview pricing options for protecting AI apps and agents
AI is transforming how we work—and how we govern and protect data.
AI regulation is accelerating—over 1,000 AI-related policy initiatives have been proposed across 69 countries!
In response, Microsoft Purview is stepping up to help organizations secure, govern, and stay compliant with their data in the age of AI.
📌 What’s new?
Starting May 1, 2025, Microsoft Purview is expanding its consumption-based (PAYG) pricing to better align with how data flows through networks, GenAI apps, pipelines, and AI agents—not just users.
This model complements the existing per-user-per-month (PUPM) licensing options and provides greater flexibility to scale based on your actual data activity and compute usage.
These new PAYG meters join the existing PAYG meters for Purview data governance and initial set of data security meters which were activated January 6, 2025. The new Purview meters are as follows with corresponding prices noted in USD:
Examples of new PAYG capabilities:
🔗 Action required: Customers using Purview value in the following scenarios will activate one or more of the new meters and will accrue charges on the Azure subscription linked to your Microsoft 365 tenant. If you do not have a linked Azure subscription to your Microsoft 365 tenant these metered capabilities will stop working on June 30, 2025.
