Update to enrollment pre-requisites for Windows devices managed by Defender for Endpoint with Intune
💼**Key Update:**
In a bid to enhance your user experience, we're removing Azure Active Directory (AD) join or Hybrid Azure AD join as prerequisites for enrolling Windows devices that use security settings management in Defender for Endpoint.
✅**Who does this apply to?**
This update is available for our customers that opted into public preview functionality for Defender for Endpoint.
🔄**Transition process:**
Customers already using this functionality will seamlessly transition to the updated infrastructure with no impact for their existing Windows devices managed by Defender for Endpoint that are using this functionality.
💡**Benefits:**
Previously, Windows devices unable to enroll in Defender for Endpoint due to Azure AD join or Hybrid Azure AD join requirements can now succeed in enrollment, and targeted policies will be applied.
🖥️**Device Monitoring:**
To filter for devices that were previously unable to enroll in Defender for Endpoint due to not meeting the Azure AD join or Hybrid Azure AD join pre-requisite, navigate to the Microsoft 365 Defender portal > Devices list and filter by enrollment status. Since these devices are still not fully registered, they’ll show the device attributes where MDM = Intune and Join Type = Blank. With the new release, these will begin to successfully enroll.
🛠️**Policy Assignments:**
Policies that were assigned to devices previously unsuccessful in enrollment will now be applied. For ensuring all enrolled devices receive policies, consider creating a dynamic Azure AD group with the “MDEManaged” value.
🚀**Take action:**
Join the public preview of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint today by navigating to Settings > Endpoints > Advanced features > Preview features in the Defender for Endpoint portal.
